Winter's Garden January Table

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says
"Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”
― Lewis CarrollAlice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

Thanks for stopping by!
Today I'm sharing my table set for January.
With all the holiday decorations down the dining room
looked ready for a winter's garden table.

This weekend we received our first official
winter snow fall with a dusting of snow to make
nature window watching beautiful.
For this table I picked neutrals of brown, cream and green.
I tucked in a few surprises down the middle of pinecone candles,
baby pincones and two birds my daughter gave me
for my birthday in December.
This beautiful centerpiece of roses, hydrangea and pincones
tied it all together.

For the place setting I used burlap chargers,
cable knit dinner plates & mugs, dripware brown salad plates,
a winter garden napkin, wood flatware &
vintage green bubble glass goblets.
When I added the goblets the green in the napkins
and the centerpiece really popped.
I love the textures of the dripware, cable and burlap together.
Here's a close up of the brown mercury glass
birds in their glittered nests.
I hope you enjoyed this taste of a winter garden
on the table.

A Touch of Fall

Update: I just joined a great party at domestically speaking !

Who's ready for fall? Well I guess I am since I've begun

rooting around the fall decorations at home.

I thought I'd start out small since it's still pre-Labor Day.

A few pumpkins & gourds in the punch bowl to

let Mother Nature know I'm ready for cool weather!

Here's some more of my blue and white collection too.

Spode napkin rings - 4 of a set of 12

A mod podge of appetizer plates collected at TJ Maxx.

Four little fish friends (I like the one swimming ahead)

which are chop stick holders for the table :)

And a small box brought home from Italy by

my parents with a gift in it for my son.

Above the buffet hands my portrait done in St. Louis

Well, one piece done, more to come!

Met Monday

Today we join Susan over at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphsis Monday. If you remember, my dining room started out looking like this before I vowed to live a more organized life. Even cleaned up the dining room still needed to be "beeutified".
So I changed the plates on the wall to blue spode and added a ginger jar with a plant in the corner.

Then I brought the toile bench from our bedroom in and placed it in the corner (Mr. B thinks I'm crazy).

I added a lamp and a platter onto of the china cabinet, which was brought in from another room. I still had boxed up a set of blue and white Mr. B bought me on a rainy camping weekend about 10 years ago.

Here's the final look. I'm still not sure if I like the bench in there, but decided to give it a few days to walk by and look at it.

The best thing about this room makeover is that it didn't cost a dime!
Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you have a great week!

Dining Room Dreaming

Recently I received an email from Horchow advertising the lovely dining room sets below on sale. While most of us consider a dining room suite a once in a lifetime purchase, it's still fun to "window shop" at the sets below. One thing I found interesting is to also look at the way they have stylized the dining rooms themselves. Many of these accessories could be purchased to update our own dining rooms. For example changing the pictures on your walls or changing the paint color itself. This blue set is my favorite, not sure if I like the bench, but I love the blue!
I think I like these windows better than I like the set itself.

A cozy corner set.

Did you notice the one thing all these pictures had in common? There was plant life (plants, fruits or flowers) in every dining room.
That is one tip I'm taking from these photos for my own dining room.
Check out my changes on Monday's Metamorphosis!

Living and Organized Life Part II

Please join Susan over at http://www.betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/
for more Met Monday posts!

I'm back for Part II of my ongoing journey to live life in an organized fashion. For today's post I organized our dining room. Now I know for most of you there is probably one room in your house that you multi-purpose. For me it was the dining room. Seldom do we dine in the dining room, so for awhile I've been using it as the home base for my store. It is shipping & receiving, stock room and studio all in one. With the help of Master B, all boxes of inventory were moved into an empty closet in our guest room. I moved all my tools for creativity into the office. Today you see a blank slate for Thursday's tablescape. What an improvement!
