Milkglass Collection

Today I thought I would share part 

of my milk glass collection

I started this year.

 I was lucky to come across most

of the pieces in the china cabinet on one shopping trip

 I just love their different shapes

and the texture of the hobnail.

 I can't wait to use some of these

pieces this fall. 

 I also was able to purchase

two more lots at an estate sale this summer

 Those are still boxed up ~

 because frankly I don't think all of it will fit

in the dining room without look like I have a problem!

I think the oranges of fall will look great

mixed in -stay tuned!

so I was happy to read about

Fiesta Ware Outlet Shopping

You may have noticed in a few of my recent tables

I used these turquoise Fiesta dinner plates

from the Homer Laughlin China Company.

 So today I thought I would share where I purchased

four place settings of these this Spring.

You can buy Fiesta ware a lot of places,

even Kohls carries it now I think, however,

the Homer Laughlin China Company

official Fiesta Factory is in Newell, WV.

 It's a long drive from Louisville to Washington DC

about nine hours if we are blessed with light (ha!) traffic

as we approach the city.

My husband and I take this trip about once a month

as we have an office in Louisville and an office in DC.

Imagine my delight when I discovered about 1/2 way

thru the trip (at exit 67) is Newell, WV!

 We stopped by the outlet one trip home this Spring.

Located in a modest strip mall is a Fiesta Heaven!

 They sell first quality china in every color in the rainbow.

 But the real finds are in the back room 

where seconds and offs are marked down.

 Yummy piles of colorful dishes everywhere!

I love to support American made products.

Homer Laughlin was founded in 1871,

Bee Inspired

Join me out on the porch today for a bee inspired table.

I named my store and my blog Beeutiful by Design

for two reasons: one because I love the inspiration the symbol

of the bee stands for achieving the impossible~bees are not supposed to be able to fly because

their body exceeds the weight their wings can lift; and two because

I try to live my life beautifully, which to me means with intention by surrounding myself 

with things I find pleasing, 

celebrating the blessings of family and friends, 

and hopefully passing along some of my joy and inspiration

to others as well.  I love collecting bee themed items.

 When I started planning this table it was pretty bare and flat.

I started with the woven handled circle chargers, which are quite large.

 Then I added the white bee chargers from One Kings Lane

and a set of four white and gold mid-century glasses.

 Next comes my inspiration for the table, these green

bee plates from Anthropologie.  I was pleased

how well the gold and white of the plates are almost

an exact match to the glasses!

Classic patterns never go out of style do they?

 Next I added coral linen napkins (also from One Kings Lane-on sale 77% off)

with brass bee napkin rings ~ a gift from 

my husband last see on the Burlap & Bees table.

Then I filled in the table with these vintage light green glass goblets

I think they look like depression glass, but I am not certain,

then these little bee votives from One Kings Lane

which are sold out but I linked you to similar selection,

were set on each side of the flower centerpiece.

This arrangement is a nice mix of summer fun!

and they have awesome tabletop.

Miss B the Bride to Bee!

Many of you probably first met my daughter, Miss B, when I wrote about her journeys in Europe during her semester abroad.  Miss B Goes to Paris was a two part series in 2009.  Well Miss B has been busy since graduating with her undergraduate Bachelors degree, she has graduated law school 

and passed not one but two state bar exams!

We were delighted when she announced she was engaged this summer!

As you can imagine, we are in full wedding planning mode

for the upcoming nuptials in September, 2015.

I will share the journey of this Kentucky wedding

with you in my posts.

First up is our visit to My Old Kentucky Home

as a possible site location this past week.

The home itself is not available for events,

however, they have a lovely Visitors Center

With a great hall inside large enough to seat 200 and

outside an open air plaza and column rotunda 

which leads you down the sidewalk to a 

covered pavilion for rentals.

You can see from the blue sky it was

a beautiful day in Kentucky, 

with temps only in the upper 70s,

which is a rare occurrence in late July.

 The shadows are heavy on my photos

but you can see from below inside

the pavilion are white iron love seats!

The grounds are well manicured and landscaped

including statuary and water garden features

My Old Kentucky Home is located in Bardstown, KY

which is about a thirty minute drive outside 

Louisville, Kentucky.

Topiary Blue and White Table

Welcome out on the porch for a mid-summer meal!

This tablescape was perfect for summertime

combining blue and white with the

green of topiary themed linens and napkin rings.

 I recently bought these placemats and napkin rings

from One Kings Lane, but they

are manufactured by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation

 If you are not familiar with their mission or seen their products

you should visit their website, they have some great products

to offer and a great mission to support.

 I mixed in some milk glass goblets to continue the 

summer fresh theme.

 And used these C Wonder napkins, which are white

edged with mini pom poms -so cute!

 But I have to say the napkin rings are my favorite on the table.

Topiary Blue and White

On the weekends I like to make a seasonal centerpiece

for my table that week.

Often this is just a grocery store bunch with additions from the yard

for some pizzazz!

 This week I used cream color roses with

just the faint touch of green

and added some monkey grass from our yard

to pickup on the green of the placemats.
