Winter's Garden January Table

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says
"Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”
― Lewis CarrollAlice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

Thanks for stopping by!
Today I'm sharing my table set for January.
With all the holiday decorations down the dining room
looked ready for a winter's garden table.

This weekend we received our first official
winter snow fall with a dusting of snow to make
nature window watching beautiful.
For this table I picked neutrals of brown, cream and green.
I tucked in a few surprises down the middle of pinecone candles,
baby pincones and two birds my daughter gave me
for my birthday in December.
This beautiful centerpiece of roses, hydrangea and pincones
tied it all together.

For the place setting I used burlap chargers,
cable knit dinner plates & mugs, dripware brown salad plates,
a winter garden napkin, wood flatware &
vintage green bubble glass goblets.
When I added the goblets the green in the napkins
and the centerpiece really popped.
I love the textures of the dripware, cable and burlap together.
Here's a close up of the brown mercury glass
birds in their glittered nests.
I hope you enjoyed this taste of a winter garden
on the table.

Gazebo Dreaming

As the weather warms, I dream of all the possibilities

for our property -do you? One of these would be

a gazebo. I dream of days dining al fresco in my gazebo.
Think of the tablescapes!

Or a smaller gazebo as a focal point in the yard.

Summer days lounging in the gazebo with iced tea . . .

Or reading a favorite novel . . .

The beautiful landscape surrounding me

The sound of waves in the background

(never mind that I live in KY)

In my beautiful summer white gown . . .

Okay maybe all the rain has made me delirious

but a gazebo would be a wonderful addition

and the beginning of the season

always holds infinite inspiration.

A Stroll Thru the Yard

Won't you grab a glass of iced tea and join me today as we take a stroll thru the yard to see what's happening?

This bush out by the back patio was another inheritance from the
previous owners. It blooms only for a few weeks each June.

I think it's very unusual looking. Any ideas?

In some of my containers this year I planted this
mini-daisy looking trailer.

It's doing a great job of spreading around the pots
and climbing down.

I like it with the yellow marigolds since it has
a yellow center.

Clematis

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you are having a great day and getting ready for the long holiday weekend!

I think one of my favorite times in the garden is late May and early June. Too early for the heat, drought, humidity and bugs that come in later June and July - you can really enjoy the garden in the evening.

These purple clematis are one of my favorites each year. They bloom full and showy almost in unison along our patio fence line.

We hang a bird feeder above the fence on a shepard's hook and when the cardinals come it makes such a nice red and purple display!

Flower Bargain Hunting

There is a lovely little fruit market right next to my office park. Let's call it the fancy pants fruit market, because it's where all the rich and famous shop for their flowers, plants and various other gardening needs each spring. Don't get me wrong, they have fabulous plants, but I just can't afford to spend that much on plants (which with my talents will die before seasons end). So one day Mr. B and I were driving past the fancy pants fruit market and we saw a truck unloading flats of flowers. "Stop the car!" I scream, which Mr. B knows by now this means business. I see on the side of the truck "wholesale - open to the public".
Well, I scribble down the name and website of this discovery determined that it will be the mother lode of all my plant needs.

This weekend Mr. B and I embarked on a journey to the source of all delight, which was about one hour from our house. "Don't worry" I declare to Mr. B "we will save a ton on these plants and they will be soooo good :)"

Well, after a long drive in the rain, we make it to the nursery. Where, indeed there was a wide selection of wonderful plants.

But guess what? The prices are the same as the fancy pants store!! Mr. B was not happy. I was not happy.

We had driven two hours out of our way to pay prices 1/2 a block from our office. Well, I felt like I had to purchase something to justify the trip.

So I bought a few flats of begonias, a few marigolds and some sweet potato vine.

I left feeling as I often do during these expeditions, disappointed and tired.

On the bright side we did find fabulous ferns at Kroger's, which were $8 less per fern than at the nursery or the fancy pants store.

I will continue this weekend to shop for more plants, probably at the big box store, where you never know what kind of quality you will get.
